Artistic Residency in San Miguel de Allende, México

I was invited to attend the first cohort of @made_creatives_in_residence in San Miguel de Allende, México. A one month, extraordinary experience, full of magic and creativity! I am incredibly grateful to have witnessed some of the rich history of this land. From pre-Hispanic dances and rituals to taking Arte Sacro as a new way of creative expression. Wow, I'm in awe.

The faith of the people in SMDA is touching, their dedication to maintaining tradition, customs and devotions is impressive. I feel grateful to have witnessed the dedication, community organization and devotion of this beautiful town.
For me, creating is an act of faith. From the moment an idea is born until the moment it materializes, we are blindly trusting that it will work and if you respect your craft, you make sure to see it through. This does not mean that there is no fear or doubt, but despite this, we continue working on that original vision. From my point of view, when we create we are exercising our divinity. It is an act of both action and surrender, pure and wonderful that not only serves us but those who connect with our work.
Art, like faith, heals. Not every type of art or faith will appeal to you nor do you have to agree with it, but if you look intently, you are sure to find something that speaks directly to your heart.

I got to share my poetry at the local tiendita "Abarrotes Emmanuel" (grocery store). Thank you to the owner Arturo Ramínez for being so kind! Thank you to my @made_creatives_in_residence collaborators Linda and @malenaugaz for recording the moment and being so supportive! Public art is public health and poetry belongs everywhere!
